As a result, many Jews fled to other countries while those who remained continued to practice their faith secretly under penalty of death if discovered by authorities. In recent years however there has been a resurgence of Jewish life with small communities re-emerging throughout Spain including Barcelona, Madrid and Seville among others. Various forms of paganism have also had an influence on Spanish spirituality over time with some regions still practicing traditional rituals such as festivals honoring saints or nature gods even today. These rituals are often combined with Christian traditions forming unique blends that reflect both ancient beliefs alongside modern customs which can be seen especially during Easter celebrations throughout Spain where pre-Christian elements are blended with Catholic practices such as processions and Masses honoring Jesus’ resurrection from death three days prior.
