The majority of the population is Christian, with the Romanian Orthodox Church being the largest religion in the country. Other Christian denominations such as Roman Catholic, Greek Catholic, and Reformed churches are also present. The Muslim population in Romania is small, but growing. There are also some small communities of Jews in Romania who practice Judaism. Though not officially recognized, many Romanians still practice traditional forms of folk religion which have been passed down through generations. These religions typically involve beliefs and practices such as ancestor worship, divination rituals, and traditional healing practices. Additionally, there has been an increase in new religious movements such as Neopaganism and various forms of New Age spiritualism which are gaining popularity among younger generations in Romania. In conclusion, Romania has a diverse religious landscape with many different faiths being practiced throughout the country. In 2011, Romania was a semi-presidential republic located in the southeastern region of Europe. It was bordered by Hungary to the northwest, Ukraine and Moldova to the northeast, Bulgaria to the south, and Serbia to the southwest. Romania had a total population of around 21 million people and its capital city was Bucharest. The official language of Romania was Romanian which is an Eastern Romance language closely related to Latin and other Romance languages. Politically, Romania had a semi-presidential system with both a president and prime minister in power. At this time, Traian Basescu served as President while Emil Boc held the post of Prime Minister. The government system in place at this time favored stability over reform which led to some stagnation in terms of economic growth and development during this period. In terms of its economy in 2011, Romania had recently joined the European Union (EU) which provided it with access to substantial funding from international organizations such as the World Bank; however its economy still remained largely dependent on agriculture which accounted for around 20% of GDP during this period. Other major industries included energy production & manufacturing but these sectors were much less developed compared to agriculture due to lack of investment from foreign companies as well as limited access to technology required for these sectors to grow. In terms of social development during this period, poverty levels were high with around one third of the population living below the poverty line; access to basic services such as healthcare and education were also very limited due to lack of funding from government authorities.
