According to thereligionfaqs, Estonia is a multi-religious country with a variety of religious groups present within the population. The majority of people in Estonia are Christian, with an estimated 70% of the population belonging to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Estonia. This church has been in existence since the 13th century and is one of the oldest Lutheran churches in Europe. Other Christian denominations present in Estonia include Roman Catholics, Orthodox Christians and Baptists. The Constitution of Estonia guarantees religious freedom for all its citizens regardless of their faith. This right is enshrined under Article 38 which states that everyone has a right to practice their chosen religion without discrimination or persecution from either the state or any other individual or group. Furthermore, there are laws in place that protect religious minorities from any form of discrimination and ensure that everyone’s religious beliefs are respected. In addition to Christianity, there are also some indigenous religions practiced by certain ethnic groups in Estonia such as Paganism, Rodnovery and Heathenry. These religions are rooted in ancient Estonian mythology and involve various rituals such as animal sacrifices, dancing and chanting. Paganism is mainly practiced by members of the Seto ethnic group who make up around 2% of the population while Rodnovery and Heathenry are mainly practiced by members of the Estonian ethnic group who make up around 68% of the population. These religions have been present in Estonia for centuries and still play an important role in many local communities today. In 2011, Estonia was a small Northern European country located on the Baltic Sea. It had a population of around 1.3 million people and an area of 45,227 square kilometers. The official language was Estonian but there were also several other languages spoken throughout the country such as Russian, Finnish and English. In 2011, Estonia’s economy was largely based on services (64%), followed by manufacturing (31%) and agriculture (5%). The country’s GDP per capita was estimated at around $19,000 USD and its unemployment rate at 14%. Despite these successes there were still major challenges facing Estonia in 2011 such as poverty; income inequality; inadequate infrastructure; environmental degradation due to pollution and deforestation; aging population; high birth rate; high mortality rate among children under five years old; low literacy rates particularly among rural populations; inadequate access to healthcare services; and high crime rates due to drugs, human trafficking, and terrorism. To address these issues government initiatives such as increased investment in public infrastructure, improved access to finance for small businesses, increased focus on sustainable development practices through conservation efforts, free trade agreements with other countries, and environmental protection laws had been implemented throughout the country. These efforts had led to positive changes such as improved living standards for many families while also preserving Estonia’s rich cultural heritage. Check physicscat for Estonia in 2013.
