According to thereligionfaqs, Chile is a predominantly Christian country, with approximately 70% of citizens following the Roman Catholic faith. The remaining 30% of the population follows Protestantism, traditional African religions, and other minority faiths such as Judaism and Islam. Roman Catholicism is the largest religion in Chile and it has been present since colonial times. The Catholic Church maintains a strong presence in many aspects of Chilean culture and daily life. Protestantism is also popular in Chile, particularly among Evangelical Christians. Traditional African religions are practiced by some members of the African diaspora that have settled in Chile over the past few centuries. These religions typically involve beliefs in an omnipotent creator god and their ancestral spirits that can be appealed to for help. Animism is also practiced in some areas, which involves the belief that supernatural forces inhabit natural objects and phenomena such as trees, rocks and rivers. Animists also believe that their ancestors can help them in times of trouble or difficulty. Judaism is also present in Chile, with a small but growing community mainly concentrated around Santiago de Chile. Finally, Islam has been present in Chile since before colonial times due to contact with traders from North Africa and other parts of the Middle East who settled there during colonial times. In 2011, Chile was a country located in South America with an estimated population of 17.3 million people spread across its 15 administrative regions. Spanish was the official language of Chile, though there were also several other indigenous languages spoken throughout the country. In 2011, Chile had achieved steady economic growth over the past few decades, largely attributed to its strong export economy and successful economic policies such as privatization, deregulation and free trade agreements. This level of economic growth had resulted in a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita of $14,000 USD which was one of the highest in Latin America and the Caribbean region. In addition to its export economy, Chile also possessed rich natural resources such as copper, timber and fish which provided additional sources of income for the country. Despite these successes, there were still some challenges facing Chile in 2011 such as high levels of income inequality which had led to widespread poverty among certain sectors of society. In addition, civil unrest and frequent natural disasters such as earthquakes further hindered economic growth and development. Nonetheless, despite these challenges there were still some bright spots for development such as increased access to healthcare services thanks to programs funded by international donors and improved access to electricity through off-grid solar power projects. The government also implemented several reforms designed to improve social conditions such as increasing access to primary education, reducing child mortality rates and improving maternal health care through programs funded by international donors. My tour of Chile, South America, began and ended, in the country’s capital Santiago de Chile. The city was my base for three days at the beginning of the trip to acclimatize and adapt to the times. Then I continued to Punta Arenas in Patagonia, the southernmost city in the world on the mainland. Here […]
