North America

University: San Diego State University

City: San Diego

Country: United States

Continent: North America

Field of study: Economics, communication sciences, political science

Study type: semester abroad

So, if I were you, I would think twice about going to San Diego State for a stay abroad. Because you should be aware that when you are back in Germany, you will have a lot of longing and would like to go back quickly and continue living there.

If you still want to do it, preparation is everything! From my experience, with MicroEdu you have a placement partner at your side with whom everything worked out great for me. I started my concrete plans in January 2010 and first talked to my university in Germany about the project. In any case, you should do this very carefully if you end up crediting the courses from the USA. When the SDSU course catalogs (really huge) were out, I compiled my personal list and got written confirmation of the recognition from my home university. If you can do that too, do it and you’re on a relatively safe side. I had always chosen more than one alternative for each of my four courses. You should definitely do that, because you don’t always know which course you will get on site!!! Because of my good pre-selection, I ended up having far fewer problems than some others, which, to be fair, may also be due to the course of study. Visit mcat-test-centers.com to get information about Saint Marys University SMU.

You will notice a little how expensive the stay in the USA will be as soon as you take care of your VISA. The Americans take money for everything, which is not meant negatively, you should just know it. This will also continue at UNI. Subsidized canteen food, inexpensive readers… all history once you’re there!!! But that’s the way the system works and if you have a problem with it, you shouldn’t go to the States to study.

Studying was just awesome, it was a lot of fun, even if it’s all very “schooled”. Anyone who believes that bachelor’s/master’s degrees in Germany restrict freedom of thought and teaching should also stay at home, because as a student in the USA, you quickly feel like you’ve been transported back to your school days. But that wasn’t a big problem for me if you can go to the classroom in flip-flops under the palm trees every day.

That brings me to the topic of lifestyle. I’ll say it’s all very chilled, even if it can get a bit stressful during the semester with lots of exams. But the rhythm of life in San Diego and at SDSU is stress-free and everything is much more relaxed than usual. Bad mood, bad looking people (forgive me), stress…everything is left in Germany and the California lifestyle begins!!! Sun, sports, good mood, beautiful people, surfers and lots of exotic and delicious food are waiting for you!!!

Where exactly you want to live is basically up to you and depends on what you want. In principle, there is no such thing as a bad neighborhood. But what you should have, in my opinion, is a car! Recommend dirtcheapcarrental. It’s best to go there directly. Are the cheapest and best, I had taken the trouble and scoured all the other cheap lenders. I lived at WindanSeaBeach in La Jolla myself and got 6 winnings in the lottery! For me the coolest residential area for a student if you plan to live in the American community. However, many German and American students live in Pacific Beach. If you’re going to a lot of parties, etc., it’s certainly a great spot. Living on campus is convenient was out of the question for me and sometimes very noisy. Especially at the beginning of the semester there are endless parties every evening where all 18/19 year old Americans who come from any village in the rest of the country let off steam and not only smoke cigarettes. Anyone who wants that is certainly not wrong on campus, but should also be prepared for such scenarios. My tip: car long-term pension as soon as arrived in SD. And then look for a place in the beach areas (Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, La Jolla)! In terms of housing, etc. everything is done via craigslist.org!!! who come from random villages in the rest of the country let off steam and not just smoke cigarettes. Unfortunately, I cannot describe nearly all impressions. I can only encourage you: do it!!! It will be the best time of your life!!! Please don’t think about another city than San Diego, because SD is simply America’s finest and you will grow fond of it!!!
