Overview
Hats, baskets, handbags and mats made from native plants. Handicrafts are best bought at the Niue Handicraft Shop or the Cultural Center in Alofi. Colorful t-shirts, stamps and coins are other nice souvenirs. Shop opening times: Mon-Fri 08:00-16:00, Sat 16:00-20:00. Most places have shops that are open in the evenings and at weekends.
Nightlife
Introduction
The Niue Sport Club provides entertainment and hosts disco nights and dance performances by the locals. The Niue Hotel and Sails Restaurant are known for their fiafia nights.

Culinary
Overview
Taro, coconut, papaya, banana, tomato, and various types of yams are ingredients for popular dishes. The native luku fern is boiled, roasted or even stir-fried in an earth oven with coconut cream, chicken or salt beef. There are few restaurants. The Niue Hotel’s hotel restaurant is open daily during the day and in the evening. Sails Restaurant at Makapu Point specializes in meat and fish dishes. Advance booking is recommended (open Tue-Sun for lunch and dinner). Every day except Sunday you can have lunch or dinner at Jena’s de la Cuisine in Alofi. A service fee is not charged.

Mostly Christians, especially Protestant denomination.
Social Rules of Conduct
Before entering private land, one should ask permission. Sunday is dedicated to doing nothing, and you go to church in the morning and in the evening. Fishing, boating and other activities are prohibited on Sundays. The Niue Tourism Office provides information about further restrictions (see addresses). Casual wear is common and appropriate given the temperatures. However, women often wear hats and men wear long pants when going to church. Swimwear belongs on the beach. Tipping is not customary.
