Eugene, Oregon
According to Countryaah.com, Eugene is a city in Oregon, United States, 150 miles south of Portland, 75 miles from the Pacific Coast. The city has 156 185 residents (2010).
Eugene has its name after Eugene Skinner, who founded the first settlement in the area in 1846. The area was previously inhabited by indigenous people of the Kalapuya tribe. The railroad reached Eugene in 1871, accelerating the development of the city as a central place for agriculture and timber operations in the area. The University of Oregon was founded in the city in 1872.
Business is largely based on timber and agricultural products as raw material. In addition, Eugene is a tourist center with its proximity to much-visited national parks.
