Overview

Seafood, local vegetables and fruits, Calaloo Soup (similar to spinach), crab, sea snails (Lambi) and avocado ice cream are the culinary specialties. Almost all hotels and restaurants offer English, European and North American specialties in addition to exotic local fish dishes. Drinks: A local company produces numerous fruit drinks. The island rum and carib beer are excellent. The bars offer a wide range of wine, spirits and cocktails. Local rum used to be shipped in casks labeled Georgius Rex Old Grenada. The initials GROG are said to be the origin of the sailor’s drink.

You can pitch your tent in Grand Etang National Park and on the grounds of some schools and churches, but you must first obtain a permit.

Social etiquette: The influences of the British and French colonial powers and the Catholic Church are still noticeable in the culture today. The Big Drum dance on Carriacou and the Shango dance in Grenada were influenced by African slaves. Clothing: Casual clothing is accepted, bathing suits are required on the beach. Smoking is allowed everywhere. Tipping: 8% tax is included in all hotel bills. 10% of the invoice amount is appropriate as a tip. Taxi drivers expect a tip.
