Waco, Texas
Waco, city of USA, Texas, 135 km south of Dallas; 228 100 in. (2007). Transport hub and cotton market, textile, glass and rubber products industry. The seat of Baptist Baylor University, founded in 1845. In May 1953, a tornado killed 114 people in Waco.
In April 1993, the FBI Branch attacked the Davidian sect’s detention center Mount Carmel in Waco. The members of the sect collectively committed suicide, and all the buildings burned down. At least 70 sect members perished with leader David Koresh. The headquarters was ignited after being besieged by the FBI for 51 days following a raid of illegal weapons.
David Koresh stepped out of the Adventist movement and founded Branch Davidians in 1987. He preached the impending doom and considered himself the Messiah.
Texas City, Texas
Texas City is a city in the United States in the state of Texas. It is located on the Gulf of Mexico, 10 km northwest of Galveston. The city has 48,558 residents (U.S. Census, 2017).
Oil refining and the petrochemical industry are important trade routes. An explosion in a chemical ship in 1947 killed close to 600 people, more than 4,000 were injured. The city experienced a severe hurricane in 1915, with major damage.
San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio is a city in the state of Texas, United States, about 300 miles west of Houston. In 1970, about 48 percent of the population was white and about 45 percent Hispanic / Latino. San Antonio is an important transport and trade center with a free port (from 1950). Important trade routes are the military, health care, financial services, oil and gas and tourism. San Antonio has one of the United States’ largest concentrations of military airports and bases, including Lackland Air Force Base, Randolph Air Force Base and Fort Sam Houston. The city has around 34.4 million visitors each year; One of eight jobs is tourism-based. Among the main attractions are the San Antonio Missions – mission stations built by the Spanish Empire in the 18th century – which were listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2015.
A large part of the population is of Mexican origin, and the city has a strong Latin American character. Still, the city has great immigration from Mexico, also illegal. San Antonio is the seat of St. Mary’s Catholic University, founded in 1852, the Presbyterian Trinity University, founded in 1869, and the University of Texas at San Antonio, founded in 1973. Founded as a mission station in 1718, San Antonio has long been the most important city in Texas. The Alamo Mission Station outside the city is an important memorial to the Texas Revolution (1836), where defenders, including legendary James Bowie and Davy Crockett, were massacred by Mexican General Santa Anna. The city has grown rapidly since 1919, when exploitation of the surrounding petroleum fields began, and after 1940, due to large military investments in the city.
Grand Prairie, Texas

Galveston, Texas
Galveston, a city in the United States, Texas, on the sandy beach of Galveston Island, off the Galveston Bay lagoon, 80 miles southeast of Houston; 56 900 in. (2007). Important port city on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Exports of sulfur, cotton, wheat, etc. At one time were the world’s largest cotton export port, but have suffered during the competition with Houston. Galveston was founded in 1834, and during a short period of 1836 was the capital of the Republic of Texas. City status 1839. Destroyed by hurricane in 1900, 5000 perished. Established the first City Commission in the U.S. after the hurricane.
Brownsville, Texas
Brownsville, U.S. city, Texas, on the Rio Grande opposite Matamoros in Mexico, 35 km from the outlet; 172,800 in. (2007). History
One of the Confederate’s most important ports during the Civil War. The city became herostrically famous in 1906 when President Theodore Roosevelt dismissed 167 black soldiers after some rioting. In 1972, they recovered (after 66 years), with the U.S. Army changing their resignation to ” honorable discharge.” The case attracted tremendous attention in 1906, and the black soldiers constantly asserted their innocence.
