Tulsa, Oklahoma
Tulsa is a city in the state of Oklahoma in the United States, 160 miles northeast of Oklahoma City. The city has 401,800 residents (U.S. Census, 2017).
Tulsa had 1400 residents when petroleum was found in 1901 and started a tremendous growth. It was nicknamed “the world’s oil capital,” and was long the seat of the International Petroleum Exposition oil fair. The energy sector still plays a significant role for the economy, and more than 800 major oil companies operate here. The aerospace industry is also of great importance. Higher education includes the University of Tulsa, founded in 1894, and Oral Roberts University (1965).
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Oklahoma City is the largest city and capital of the state of Oklahoma in the United States, located in the middle of the state, with 643,648 residents. Oklahoma City forms the core of a larger urban region with 1,383,737 residents (U.S. Census, 2017).
Business
By and large, Oklahoma City is one of the largest cities in the United States. The city is a transport, commercial and industrial center with petroleum refining, aviation industry, steel mills, mills and slaughterhouses. In addition, there is Oklahoma City University, which is a department of the State University, and several colleges.
History
Oklahoma City was founded in 1889 and became the state capital in 1910. On April 19, 1995, the federal building that housed offices for the FBI and the federal agency for alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives was blown up in a terror attack that killed 168 people, including many children in a kindergarten in the building. Timothy McVeigh was executed for the wrongdoing on June 11, 2001.
