The Front Range, the industrial belt at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, is one of the nation’s centers for the electronics industry. History
Denver was founded in 1860, became the state capital in 1867, and grew strongly in the 1880s due to rich gold and silver finds near the city. The population increased from 4750 in 1870 to 107,000 in 1890. The “silver boom” lasted until 1893, after which time the business base became more varied. The city center has undergone major changes after the 1950s, with construction of up to 40 storeys high office and business buildings.
The population of the city itself stagnated in the period 1960–1990, and then increased again. The suburban belt around the city has experienced strong growth all the time, especially in the 2000s.
