How To Calculate Lighting In LED Lighting?

To properly evaluate if a set is well sized for the environment, it is necessary to calculate theluminance of the environment according to a table of standard ABTN.

It is important to choose the correct lamp or lamp to use in your environment, noting also the proper illuminance for each room. NBR5413 standards and quantity of lux for each environment must be observed as follows:

Minimum quantity for the workplace: illuminance of 150 lx;

For simple tasks: 250 to 500 lx;

Solid work, normal: 500 to 1000 lx;

For more accurate Visual tasks such as fine job: 1000 to 2000 lx;

Very sensitive/thin work: above 2000 lx.

Very thorough and complex, this calculation involves factors that can interfere with a greater or lesser degree of luminance. Those who work with lighting technique can use some tools to define this index accurately.

Below is a simplified formula to see if particular luminaire or lamp can give enough light to an environment:

LM (luminous flux)/m ² of location=lux

Imagine that you have a room of 20 m ² and want to install a plafon with 3 small fluorescent lamps of 11W, where each has 700 lumens. Ambient luminance would be calculated this way:

3 x 700 lm/20 m ²=lm/20 2,100 m ²=105 lux

This calculation is performed by following the standards ABNT, which tells that a dorm must necessarily have at least 50 lux for general lighting. So, the result indicates that the three be with lamps plafon dimensions.

Color Temperature

There are 3 types of colors for LED lighting, based on color temperature:

1. Hot

It’s the kind of yellowish white color and has 2,700 K to 3,000 K (kelvins). With low luminance level, are ideal for environments of up to 300 lux, as residences, shops and restaurants.

2. Neutral

White color is neutral. With medium level of illuminance, its 4,000 K are suitable for environments with 300 lux or more, such as offices, supermarkets, banks and other commercial environments that deal with large movement of people.

3. Cold

Color is bluish white, with 5,700 K. Ideal for those looking for greater efficiency and better visual perception, with more contrasts, are typically used in warehouses and parking lots—that is, extensive outdoor areas, galleries and production lines.

It is important to remember that lamps may vary in temperature and, consequently, of color. Despite the name “color”, this feature is only nuances of white light, which may vary in colors like red, Orange, yellow, blue and neutral purple.
