Helena Town, Montana

Helena is the capital of the state of Montana. The city has 31 429 residents (U.S. Census, 2017) and is 1205 meters above sea level.

The city is the seat of a Catholic university, Carroll College from 1909. At the top of the capitol building is a reproduction of the Statue of Liberty.

Helena was founded after the Gold Findings in 1864 (Last Chance Gulch), became the capital of the Montana Territory in 1875, and gained city status in 1883. It has been the state capital from 1889, when Montana was incorporated into the Union as a state.
